Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to prioritize addressing terrorism that originates from Afghanistan. This appeal comes as the UNSC extended the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for another year. Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN, Munir Akram, expressed concerns over the Taliban's struggle to combat terrorist groups like ISIS/Daesh. He claimed that the Taliban has allowed the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) to operate and launch attacks against Pakistan. Akram highlighted a recent attack by the BLA on the Jafferabad Express train, stating that the attack was coordinated from Afghanistan. He emphasized that this and similar attacks aim to destabilize Pakistan and disrupt its collaboration with China, particularly regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The ambassador appreciated the UNSC's strong stance against the train attack and called for accountability for those behind such acts of terrorism. He reiterated Pakistan's demand that Afghanistan not be used for plotting or financing terrorist activities or sheltering terrorists. The resolution from the UNSC urged the Taliban to take action against terrorism. Akram noted that groups like ISIL-K, Al-Qaida, TTP, and BLA pose significant threats to peace and security in Afghanistan, the region, and the world. He indicated that Pakistan would propose specific actions to help the UN tackle terrorism effectively.
