Pakistan deploys army to secure Islamabad ahead of pro-Khan rally
The Pakistan Interior Ministry has deployed the army to secure Islamabad's Red Zone amid protests by supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The army is protecting diplomatic missions and has taken control of the D-Chowk area. Supporters of Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party broke through police barricades to reach the capital. The protests follow Khan's call for a rally demanding his release and the resignation of the current government. The unrest has resulted in the deaths of four paramilitary Rangers and injuries to several others, including journalists. Islamabad remains under lockdown with over 20,000 police personnel deployed.
