Pakistan lawmakers briefed on rising violence and security
Pakistan's National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has called a closed-door meeting for Tuesday to discuss security issues. The military leadership will brief lawmakers on the rising violence in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested the meeting amid a surge in deadly attacks, including a recent assault that killed five people in Balochistan. The session will include members from various parliamentary committees and provincial leaders. The government is planning a large-scale operation against the Balochistan Liberation Army and other militant groups. Recent attacks have resulted in significant casualties, with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa accounting for most of Pakistan's terrorist incidents in 2024.
