Pakistan remains highly affected by ongoing terrorism threats
Pakistan ranks as the second most terrorism-affected country in the world, according to the latest Global Terrorism Index. Recent attacks, including one in Bannu that killed 18 people, highlight the ongoing threat from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The TTP has gained strength since the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan, using it as a base for attacks in Pakistan. Previous diplomatic efforts to engage with the Afghan government and TTP have failed, prompting calls for a more aggressive counter-terrorism strategy. Pakistan's security forces face a growing challenge, with attacks becoming more frequent and systematic. There is a need for reforms in domestic security and intelligence, as well as a revitalization of the National Action Plan to combat terrorism effectively.
