Pakistan seeks stronger ties with US under Trump administration

dawn.com November 8, 2024, 05:01 AM UTC

Pakistan's Foreign Office stated that "non-interference" should be the foundation of its relationship with the United States, expressing optimism for stronger ties under President Trump's administration. Officials have congratulated Trump and seek mutually beneficial cooperation.

The spokesperson dismissed claims that Trump would pressure Pakistan regarding the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, labeling such suggestions as speculative. Pakistan maintains that its relationship with China will remain stable despite changes in U.S. leadership.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to attend the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Saudi Arabia on November 11, focusing on the Middle East crisis, particularly in Gaza. He will advocate for Palestinian rights and call for an immediate ceasefire.
