Pakistan to host World U-23 Squash Championship in Karachi

Pakistan will host the World Under-23 Squash Championship in Karachi from April 6 to 10. This is a significant event as it marks the first time the world governing body is organizing a championship for players in this age group. The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) announced that 32 countries have confirmed their participation. PSF Vice-President Adnan Asad highlighted that this will be the first major squash tournament in Pakistan in many years. He also noted that since squash is included in the 2028 Summer Olympics, this championship will provide top players with opportunities for Olympic participation. Asad mentioned that Indian players will not take part in the tournament, as they did not qualify. However, Indian squash officials are invited to attend the event. The PSF plans to spend around 600,000 USD to host the championship, with a prize purse of 60,000 USD. Squash legend Jahangir Khan attended the media conference and expressed hope that the under-23 World Championship would help Pakistan and promote young talent globally. Khan, a ten-time British Open winner, believes hosting such events could help Pakistan restore its reputation in international squash.
