Pakistanis seek heart transplants in India due to shortages
Two young Pakistanis, Emaan Taufiq and Asad Ali, are traveling to India for heart transplants due to the lack of organ donation in Pakistan. They suffer from severe heart failure and face significant financial challenges to secure treatment. Pakistan has advanced medical facilities but lacks a system for deceased organ donation, which prevents heart transplants. Cultural beliefs hinder families from consenting to organ harvesting, leaving many patients without options. In contrast, India has a successful transplant system supported by public awareness and legal frameworks. Experts emphasize that without a change in attitudes toward organ donation, many more lives in Pakistan will be lost.
