Pakistan's Supreme Judicial Council expands consultations on intelligence interference claims
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) of Pakistan is expanding consultations regarding allegations of interference by intelligence agencies in judicial matters. This follows a letter from six Islamabad High Court judges calling for an investigation into these claims. The SJC reviewed ten complaints against judges but found no substantial evidence. The council will now hold monthly meetings to address outstanding complaints and is working on establishing a secretariat and updating the judges' code of conduct. Additionally, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan has endorsed a proposal to nominate all Sindh High Court judges for constitutional benches to help reduce case backlogs. This arrangement will be reviewed again on November 25.
