Palace urges Duterte to fulfill VP duties abroad

Vice President Sara Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands, to support her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. He is facing charges at the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity. The Palace has reminded her of her duties as the Vice President of the Philippines. Claire Castro, a Palace press officer, emphasized that she needs to focus on her responsibilities to the Filipino people. She noted that millions voted for Sara Duterte, and she should serve them alongside her family obligations. Sara Duterte's office is facing scrutiny over alleged misuse of confidential funds. Reports have emerged about questionable recipients, some with unusual names, which raises concerns about the management of taxpayer money. Castro stated that there needs to be an investigation to confirm the legitimacy of these claims. In addition to these issues, Sara Duterte is preparing for an impeachment trial that will follow President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address in July. She has indicated that she will stay in The Hague until her father's legal team is organized and a family member joins them.
