Palakkad division enhances rail services significantly

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Palakkad division is improving train services to connect various regions effectively. They operate about 170 regular train services every day. This year, they conducted 1,874 special train trips, a big increase from last year's 1,162 trips. These special services help travelers during busy periods like holidays and festivals. Efforts have been made to adjust train services according to travel demands. Special trains were added during popular times such as Onam, Christmas, and summer vacations. Train No. 06031/06032 is particularly important for office workers in the Shoranur-Kannur area, especially as road work in North Kerala has made travel challenging. Despite the rise in train services, the division has maintained a good punctuality rate of 94%. To handle more passengers, they added 532 extra coaches to different trains, up from 191 last year. The Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod Vande Bharat Express now runs with 20 coaches, creating 312 more seats for travelers between northern and southern Kerala. A new connection from Kacheguda-Mangaluru Express to Murdeshwar will benefit pilgrims traveling to local religious sites. The division’s revenue from passengers reached Rs 935.5 crore this fiscal year, a 6.1% increase from Rs 881.5 crore last year. Additionally, revenue from cargo services also rose, totaling Rs 65.8 crore.
