Palestinian activist arrested by immigration agents in New York
A Palestinian activist, Mahmoud Khalil, was arrested by federal immigration agents in New York on Saturday. His attorney stated that the agents claimed to be acting on a State Department order to revoke his green card. Khalil, who graduated from Columbia University in December, was taken from his university-owned apartment. His attorney reported that the agents did not provide a clear reason for his detention, and he has been moved to an immigration facility in New Jersey. This arrest follows increased scrutiny of Columbia University by the Trump administration, which has threatened to cut funding due to alleged antisemitism on campus. Khalil was a prominent figure in last spring's pro-Palestinian protests at the university.
