Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil arrested by immigration agents
Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian activist involved in Columbia University protests, was arrested by federal immigration agents on Saturday. His attorney stated that the agents claimed to be acting on a State Department order to revoke his green card. Khalil was taken from his university-owned apartment and has been moved to an immigration detention facility in New Jersey. His attorney reported that the agents did not provide a clear reason for his detention. This arrest follows increased scrutiny of Columbia University by the Trump administration, which has threatened to deport foreign students involved in protests related to the Israel-Gaza conflict. The university has also faced funding cuts due to allegations of antisemitism on campus.
