Panama's president rejects Trump's threats over canal control
Panama's President Jose Raul Mulino has firmly rejected U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's threats to regain control of the Panama Canal. Mulino stated there is "nothing to talk about," emphasizing that the canal belongs to Panama. Trump criticized the fees charged by Panama for U.S. vessels and claimed that Chinese soldiers were operating the canal, which Mulino denied. He asserted that China has no role in the canal's administration. In response to Trump's comments, protests occurred outside the U.S. embassy in Panama City, with demonstrators expressing anger over the remarks. Trump has appointed Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera as his envoy to Panama.
