The Panchkula police have arrested a 40-year-old man, Gurvinder Singh, for allegedly stealing 16 motorcycles in the city. He was caught on March 17 after police reviewed CCTV footage related to a theft reported by a salesman, Banshi Lal, on March 9. Singh, who lives in Jagadhri, Yamunanagar, targeted crowded areas, busy intersections, and residential zones where motorcycles were left unattended. He focused on popular motorcycle models like Splendor and Passion Pro, usually stealing them in the early mornings or late evenings when fewer people were around. During questioning, police learned that Singh is a drug addict and had previously worked as a laborer. He used duplicate keys and basic tools to unlock and steal bikes. To avoid detection, he moved frequently between Panchkula, Zirakpur, and surrounding areas. After stealing the motorcycles, Singh hid them locally. He either sold them at low prices, used them for personal transport, or dismantled them for spare parts. The police have multiple reports of previous thefts linked to Singh, with several FIRs filed at different police stations. Law enforcement has secured a one-day remand from the court to recover more stolen motorcycles and investigate if he committed further thefts. In response to this crime, Panchkula police will ramp up patrols with additional officers and vehicles to enhance public safety.
