Paratroopers honor D-Day veteran Peter Belcher on his 101st birthday in Salford

D-Day veteran Peter Belcher celebrated his 101st birthday at Broughton House Veteran Care Village in Salford. Former paratroopers and members of the Parachute Regimental Association joined the festivities, which included music and greetings from local schoolchildren. Belcher, who served in 17 countries during his military career, was part of the successful mission to capture Pegasus Bridge on D-Day. He received six military medals, including the Legion d’Honneur, for his service in World War II. The celebration marked a significant milestone, as Belcher is the second resident of Broughton House to turn 101 this year. He expressed joy at the gathering, recalling the support he received from family, friends, and fellow veterans.
