Parsons to miss Six Nations opener against France
Béibhinn Parsons will not play in Ireland's Women’s Six Nations match against France on Saturday. The Connacht winger is still recovering from a broken leg but is expected to return later in the tournament. Parsons has faced a tough recovery. She broke her leg twice in four months in 2024 – first during the Olympic Games and again at a World SVNS event shortly after returning. Despite concerns about her fitness, she was named in the extended Ireland training squad last month. Defence coach Hugh Hogan believes Parsons will be back on the field soon. "She’s probably not fit for selection just yet, but we do expect her to be fully fit during the tournament," he mentioned ahead of the opening game. He noted that Parsons has been more involved in training lately. Hogan also provided updates on two other players. Stacey Flood recently returned from ankle surgery and is now fit for selection. Clíodhna Moloney has also recovered from a calf injury. Saturday’s match will be Ireland’s first since their game against the USA last October. The team has been preparing through the Celtic Challenge, where both the Wolfhounds and Clovers performed well. Although the Irish sides dominated the Celtic Challenge, Hogan emphasized the need for more preparation. He acknowledged that the experience in their previous games was different from what they will face against France. He expressed confidence in the team's ability to adapt and improve. Looking ahead, Hogan is focused on progressing the team and ensuring they are ready to challenge France effectively. Ireland aims to build on their previous performances and make a mark in this year’s tournament.
