Partial remains of U.K. climber Andrew Irvine found on Everest after 100 years
The partial remains of British climber Andrew "Sandy" Irvine, who disappeared on Mount Everest in 1924, have been found. The discovery includes a foot in a sock labeled "AC Irvine" and a boot, according to a National Geographic expedition. Irvine and George Mallory were last seen near Everest's summit, but their fate has remained uncertain. Mallory's body was found in 1999, but no evidence confirmed they reached the top. The new find may help locate a camera that could provide proof of their ascent. The remains were discovered at a lower altitude than Mallory's body. The Irvine family plans to conduct DNA tests to confirm the identity. The remains are now held by the China Tibet Mountaineering Association.
