Passengers must carry power banks on-person, Malaysia Airlines
Malaysia Airlines has announced new rules for passengers regarding power banks. Starting April 1, travelers must keep their power banks with them at all times during the flight. They cannot be placed in overhead compartments. The airline stated that power banks can be stored in carry-on bags under the seat or in the seat pocket. For magnetic wireless charging power banks, passengers need to use a separate bag or protective pouch to prevent accidental activation. Using or charging power banks during the flight is not allowed. Additionally, carrying power banks or spare lithium-ion batteries in checked baggage is strictly prohibited. These rules are implemented to enhance flight safety. This update follows a previous incident where a faulty battery pack caused serious damage to an aircraft in South Korea in January 2025. Many airlines in Malaysia are now enforcing similar restrictions on power banks.
