Pat Metheny recalls meeting Jaco Pastorius in Miami and their musical journey
Pat Metheny recently shared his memories of meeting bassist Jaco Pastorius in Miami. Metheny, then 18, was impressed by Pastorius's talent during a jazz club performance shortly after arriving in the city to study at the University of Miami. The two musicians quickly formed a bond, playing together in various gigs. Metheny later invited Pastorius to join him on his debut album, "Bright Size Life," which gained recognition years after its release. Their collaboration continued as both artists achieved success in the jazz scene. Despite their early promise, Pastorius struggled with addiction and mental health issues. He died in 1987 after a violent incident. Metheny went on to have a successful career, forming the Pat Metheny Group and releasing hit albums.
