Pat Smear's first performance with Nirvana on Saturday Night Live in 1993 almost didn't happen due to concerns about his guitar. Smear had brought a 1982 Charvel, which some band members questioned. Despite initial doubts, Kurt Cobain provided Smear with a Mosrite Mark V guitar for the performance. Smear later played various Fender Strats during his time with Nirvana, including models gifted by Cobain. In a recent twist, Smear connected with H.E.R. during a Foo Fighters SNL appearance in 2023. He noticed she was using a Charvel and offered her the same guitar he once owned.
