Paterson experiences third homicide in eight days

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed in Paterson on Saturday evening. This marks the city's third homicide in just eight days. The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. on 12th Avenue in the 4th Ward. Police have not yet released the victim's name. The area where the shooting took place is known for drug activity linked to the Harem World gang. Earlier this month, two other fatal shootings were reported. One incident involved a woman in her 30s found shot in the head near freight railroad tracks. The other involved a 28-year-old man who was killed near Market and Pennington streets, which is known as the turf of the Trinitarios gang. Before these recent incidents, Paterson had a period of 44 days without gun violence. The recent spike in shootings began on March 8. This is the fourth homicide in Paterson for the year, which is higher than the same time last year. So far, there have been 12 shootings in the city this year, compared to 17 last year at this point.
