A 30-year-old man named Vishal from Patiala has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing heroin. The district court announced the sentence on Thursday. Vishal was arrested in 2022 with 308 grams of the drug. The case was handled under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. In addition to the jail term, the court ordered him to pay a fine of ₹ 1 lakh. The police arrested Vishal on October 14, 2022, during a routine operation outside the EWS Colony in Dhanas. A crime branch team noticed his grey Maruti Suzuki Swift. When he saw the police, he tried to flee by turning the car. He also attempted to get rid of a packet. However, the police caught him and found the heroin. Investigations revealed that Vishal had been bringing drugs from Dwarka in Delhi to supply in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. He already had two previous cases against him under the NDPS Act in Punjab.
