Patriots struggle to find left tackle options
The New England Patriots face a challenge as they search for help at left tackle. Veteran player Cam Robinson has signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, leaving the Patriots with fewer options. Robinson was seen as the top available free-agent left tackle after other players signed contracts earlier this week. Despite interest in Pro Bowler Ronnie Stanley, he re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The Patriots also missed out on tackles Dan Moore and Jaylon Moore, who signed with other teams. Robinson, who has played eight seasons in the NFL, started in Jacksonville before being traded to Minnesota. He has been a consistent player and has started 101 games in his career. Injuries have affected Robinson's performance, but he is still viewed as a strong option. The Patriots now have limited choices for left tackles. The best remaining player is Tyron Smith, who is 34 and started ten games for the Jets last season. Other available veterans include Jedrick Wills, D.J. Humphries, Kelvin Beachum, Kendall Lamm, and Joseph Noteboom. The left tackle position has been unstable for the Patriots over the past two years. Last season, they tried players like Chuks Okorafor and Caedan Wallace, but neither was successful in that role. This led to Vederian Lowe starting 13 games but ranking poorly among tackles. During free agency, the team signed right tackle Morgan Moses and hoped to improve their offensive line. The Patriots allowed 52 sacks last year, the most since 1999. If they can't secure a veteran tackle, they may turn to the NFL draft in April. Top prospects Will Campbell and Armand Membou are expected to be available in the first round, potentially providing the help the team needs.
