Payal Kapadia collaborates on Malayalam film "Guptam."

Payal Kapadia, known for her award-winning film, has partnered with actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal to produce a new Malayalam film called Guptam. The movie is directed and written by Kunjila Mascillamani. It will be showcased to potential investors at the CinéV Film Markets in Chandigarh from March 20 to 23. Kapadia expressed her enthusiasm for the project after reading the film's initial treatment. She was impressed by Mascillamani’s talent and felt strongly about producing Guptam. The film tells the story of a single mother facing societal challenges. Kapadia noted that this reflects the real struggles many women experience. Chadha and Fazal also shared their excitement about the film. They appreciate the story's focus on women's issues and the cultural violence that often goes unnoticed. They believe that the film's theme of a woman asserting her independence is relevant across different cultures. Guptam follows a mother whose daughter goes missing in a graveyard. The family moves to a conservative town in Kerala, where the situation worsens. The townspeople blame her for a series of disasters, leading her to fight to clear her name while dealing with her grief and caring for her other daughter.
