Pearl Lam emphasizes Hong Kong's significance in Asian art
Pearl Lam is a well-known figure in the Hong Kong art scene. She has been a gallerist for many years and is recognized for her outspoken nature and knowledge of the city's best restaurants. Lam opened her first gallery in Shanghai in 2005. She chose this path instead of joining her family's development business. Initially, she describes herself as a “shopaholic” who fell in love with art and wanted to share her collection with others. In 2008, she established the China Art Foundation to promote contemporary Chinese art. She is also involved in a program in Shanghai that supports artists by giving them space and resources to work on their projects. This year at Art Basel Hong Kong, Lam will showcase eight artists. She shared her views on the city's role in the Asian art market as other cities, like Seoul and Singapore, start to gain recognition as popular places for art collectors.
