Peel Tower to receive £57,000 condition survey
Peel Tower, a historic landmark in Greater Manchester, will undergo a £57,000 condition survey due to concerns about water damage and crumbling stonework. The funding comes from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Originally built in 1852, the Grade II-listed tower has faced issues like broken windows and damaged mortar. The survey aims to assess its current state and plan necessary repairs. Bury Council will collaborate with local community groups and specialists for the project. Activities will include wildlife surveys and community involvement in heritage and ecological events. Survey work is set to begin this spring.
