Dylan Kurt Macdonald, a 30-year-old man from Charlottetown, is facing serious charges related to child pornography and sexual interference. These charges are currently being processed in three different counties in Prince Edward Island: Queens, Kings, and Prince. Macdonald was charged in February following an investigation by the RCMP's Internet Child Exploitation Unit. He is facing a total of four charges. Some of these alleged incidents are said to be historic, though specific details have not been disclosed in court. Sexual interference occurs when an adult has sexual contact with someone under 16, and consent is not allowed in such cases. Child pornography refers to intimate images involving children. In court, Macdonald's lawyer, Isaac Quinn, attended by phone to address the possession charge in Queens County. Macdonald chose to have this case heard directly in the Supreme Court without a preliminary hearing, which is a process to test evidence beforehand. He has already appeared in court for a charge in Kings County and is scheduled to appear for the Prince County charges next week. Quinn indicated that they plan to request the same single-judge trial for the other charges in the Supreme Court. Macdonald is set to appear in the Supreme Court in Charlottetown on April 8.
