Penn student Sydney Chambule matched for residency in urology
On March 21, 2025, medical students across the United States found out where they will complete their residency programs. This event is known as Match Day. It marks an important step in their journey to becoming doctors. At the University of Pennsylvania, students excitedly opened their residency envelopes. Dr. DaCarla Albright, a leader at Perelman School of Medicine, welcomed them to this special day. Sidney Chambule, a student from Mozambique, expressed his joy about the opportunity. He received a full scholarship and has big dreams for his future. Chambule wants to be a urologist, inspired by his father who died from prostate cancer. He noted that many men in Mozambique struggle to receive good urological care. Chambule said, "I found that urological care is something that needs a lot of work." During the event, students showed their excitement and anxiety as they awaited their assignments. Dr. Susan Rose praised their dedication and compassion. Chambule has been accepted into a residency program at Penn, which allows him to stay close to the school he loves. With years of hard work behind him, Chambule feels ecstatic about this next step in his career. "I really wanted to stay here and I'm happy I did," he said. A total of 37 of his classmates will also continue their training at Penn.
