Penn-Trafford wins home opener against Latrobe, 5-3

Penn-Trafford celebrated its home opener by defeating Latrobe 5-3 in their first Section 1-5A baseball game of the season. The team displayed strong pitching and solid defense, which contributed to their victory. The game was played in windy conditions in Harrison City. The Warriors, who recently won the WPIAL championship, improved their record to 3-1. They took an early lead by scoring five runs, with crucial contributions from junior Dom Delio, who pitched well for 5 1/3 innings, and senior Hunter Brown, who secured the save. Junior center fielder Logan Matrisch led the offense with two hits, including a double that brought in three runs. Penn-Trafford's runs were bolstered by errors from Latrobe, who managed to outhit the Warriors but struggled to convert hits into runs. Latrobe, now 2-2, faced difficulties due to injuries affecting their pitching staff. Despite making a push and scoring two runs later in the game, they could not catch up. Coach Matt Basciano noted that if not for some early mistakes, the outcome might have been different. Delio performed admirably, striking out five batters and allowing no walks. Coach Lou Cortazzo praised his team's depth in pitching and highlighted the performance of junior catcher Colton Tyburski, who is filling big shoes this season. The two teams will face off again at Latrobe's field on Tuesday evening.
