Perth driver fined for partially mounting sidewalk
A woman in Perth, Australia, is upset after receiving a $200 parking fine. Imogen Blow parked her car on the curb outside a cafe, believing it was legal. She followed the example of another car parked similarly. She thought there was enough space for pedestrians and vehicles to pass. However, when she returned just 30 minutes later, she found a ticket on her windshield. The fine was issued because it is illegal in Western Australia to have any part of your car on the sidewalk. Blow was frustrated, saying this rule seemed unreasonable and that many people park this way in her neighborhood. She planned to appeal the fine, describing her situation as “ridiculous.” The situation worsened when she lost the parking notice after moving homes and faced additional fees. She now feels the penalty is excessive. While many locals sympathize with her, some believe strict parking enforcement is necessary in affluent areas like Cottesloe, where improper parking has been a long-term issue.
