Petoskey starts spring construction, focusing on Howard Street

Spring has arrived in Petoskey, and city officials are preparing for several construction projects. City manager Shane Horn discussed the plans during the city council meeting on March 17. The highlight of this year's projects is the Howard Street reconstruction. This project will happen in two phases. The first phase, covering State Street to Grove Street, begins on April 2 and is expected to finish by late May. Horn warned that this work may disrupt local schools. After the first phase, the second phase will start in late May and continue until the end of August. This part will cover Grove Street to Sheridan. The goal is to finish all work before school starts in the fall. Horn acknowledged that the timeline could change due to weather conditions. In addition to Howard Street, other projects are planned for this spring. Pennsylvania Park will receive upgrades costing about $350,000. Bayfront Park will see improvements worth $650,000. The total budget for the Howard Street project is $2.1 million. Horn emphasized the need to complete this work before summer visitors arrive.
