PG&E plans power shutoffs in Bay Area due to fire risk on Election Day

abc7news.com November 4, 2024, 08:01 AM UTC

PG&E plans to shut off power for about 15,000 customers in 17 counties this week due to high fire danger from strong winds and dry conditions. The outages may begin as soon as Election Day.

The utility has identified 12 counties, including Alameda and Sonoma, where shutoffs are likely on Tuesday. Additional counties may face outages later in the week.

PG&E is coordinating with election officials to ensure key facilities remain powered. Only one polling location may be affected, and backup power will be provided there.
