PG&E warns of possible power shutoffs for 15,000 customers in Northern California due to strong winds
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) has warned of possible power shutoffs starting Tuesday evening for about 15,000 customers in Northern and Central California due to forecasted strong winds. The outages could affect 12 counties initially, with the number potentially rising to 17 on Wednesday.
The utility is preparing for these outages to reduce wildfire risks as gusty winds are expected, particularly in areas like Yolo, Butte, and Plumas counties. Wind gusts could exceed 40 mph, raising concerns about fire spread in dry conditions.
PG&E will open 11 community resource centers across Northern California to assist affected residents. These centers will provide essential services like restrooms, water, and charging stations.
