PGIMER Chandigarh's new healthcare centres nearing completion
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh is nearing the completion of two new healthcare centres: the Advanced Neurosciences Centre (ANC) and the Advanced Mother and Childcare Centre (AMCC). These facilities aim to address the increasing need for specialized medical services in the region. The ANC is nearly finished, with 99% of construction completed. It is expected to open in April. The centre will have 300 beds and will offer advanced care for neurological disorders, including emergency services. It features ten state-of-the-art operation theaters and a two-level basement parking area for 232 cars. This project cost around ₹284 crore. The AMCC is also progressing well, with 91% of the work done. This centre is designed to support obstetrics and neonatal care, with 300 beds, including a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Each year, around 5,000 children are born at PGIMER, and this number is projected to rise. The number of NICU beds will increase from 22 to 105. This centre is expected to be operational by the end of May and has cost ₹182 crore. Both centres are awaiting necessary approvals such as fire safety and water connections. They comply with the National Building Code and are being designed to meet environmental standards. The use of natural light and energy-efficient measures will be prioritized in these new buildings.
