The 5th edition of the PGIMER Transplant Games will take place on Sunday. The event is hosted by PGIMER, along with several partner organizations. It aims to celebrate the courage of organ transplant recipients and the kindness of organ donors. Prof. Ashish Sharma, a leader in the field of renal transplant surgery at PGIMER, explained that the games offer hope to those waiting for transplants. Many individuals who once faced physical challenges due to organ failure now lead active lives and excel in sports. More than 300 transplant recipients and donors are expected to participate. Events will include various track and field competitions, badminton, and petanque. Participants will compete in different age categories, including those under and over 40 years old. Since its launch in 2014, the PGIMER Transplant Games have inspired many to join international events like the World Transplant Games. Previous editions attracted over 500 participants from across India. Digvijay, a bodybuilder and medalist from the World Transplant Games 2024, shared how the Transplant Games gave him new motivation. He hopes to encourage more people to consider organ donation. The event also aims to raise awareness about organ donation. ROTTO PGIMER will conduct an information drive, where attendees can pledge their organs and learn more about the transplant process. Prof. Vipin Kouhal emphasized that the most valuable gift one can give is the gift of life.
