Phil Jones finds leaving Manchester United WhatsApp group emotional

Phil Jones has shared his feelings about leaving Manchester United, where he played for 12 years. After his departure from the club two years ago, he found it hard to say goodbye to his teammates. Jones left the team's WhatsApp group, which he described as an emotional experience. He had been part of the group for years, sharing jokes and photos with his friends. "It was quite emotional," he said about the goodbye. He explained that he felt a strong connection to his teammates, having spent so much time with them. When he sent his farewell message, he was surprised by the lack of responses from his former teammates. "Do you know what I gave it a minute and there was no response," he recalled. He felt a bit forgotten and joked about it, saying, “I’m gone! No-one cares." Jones, who joined Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, made 229 appearances for the team. He won five major trophies during his time there, including the Premier League and the FA Cup. After leaving United in 2023, Jones retired from football in August 2024. Now, he is working as a pundit and training for his UEFA coaching license. Despite his fond memories, he concluded that the fast pace of football means he may never reconnect with some of his old friends.
