Phil Taylor's skills defended against Bobby George's claims
Bobby George has sparked controversy with his comments about darts legends Phil Taylor and Luke Littler. He suggested that Taylor, in his prime, would not have been able to compete with the current world champion, Littler. This discussion comes as Target Darts plans to host a match between the two players. Phil Taylor, known as the greatest of all time (GOAT) in darts, retired from the sport in 2018 and recently stepped away due to health issues. This makes Littler, at 18 years old, the favorite to win against the 64-year-old Taylor. George, aged 79 and a long-time figure in darts, believes that Littler's scoring and finishing abilities are superior to Taylor’s. He claims that Taylor might only have a chance against Littler if he could avoid double 10, Littler's preferred finishing point. However, Chris Mason, a former competitor of Taylor, criticized George's view, calling it "absolute b******s." He argued that statistics show Taylor's strength, noting that he often performed well under pressure. Mason pointed out that Taylor's tournament averages still hold up against today's top players. Mason added that Taylor's high averages, even on older equipment, indicate his skill level. He wonders how much better Taylor could have been if he had competed more in today's environment. George has cautioned Taylor against participating in the match, warning that he wouldn’t stand a chance against the talented young player. He suggested that if Taylor only participates for financial reasons, it could damage his legacy.
