Philadelphia Union's defense shines during international break
Major League Soccer (MLS) continues to play during international breaks, and several players shone this week. The Vancouver Whitecaps struggled, dropping their first points of the season, while other teams thrived. Austin FC's Brandon Vazquez scored his first goal, and the Philadelphia Union bounced back by defeating St. Louis City SC. This week also marked the first coaching change of the season. Goalkeeper Matt Freese from New York City FC had a standout performance with a clean sheet while facing 24 shots against the Crew. Philadelphia Union's Kai Wagner also impressed, recording an assist and leading the league with five assists as a left back. Ian Glavinovich scored his first goal in his full debut for the Union. Orlando City SC's Alexander Freeman scored a goal and provided an assist, contributing to the team's strong performance. Aaron Long from Los Angeles FC kept a clean sheet while scoring a crucial goal. In the midfield, Evander from FC Cincinnati scored two quick goals to secure a draw against Atlanta United. Emil Forsberg from New York Red Bulls delivered with two goals and has been a key player this season. Martin Ojeda of Orlando also had an impactful game, contributing to three of the team's four goals. Charlotte FC's Pep Biel opened the scoring early and assisted two goals, earning him player of the week honors despite the team facing a late challenge. Forward Kelvin Yeboah from Minnesota United scored two goals, helping the team secure a draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Philip Zinkernagel from Chicago Fire also shone with a goal and an assist.
