Philippine Commission on Women to monitor enforcement of Magna Carta of Women

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) announced plans to closely monitor the enforcement of the Magna Carta of Women, aiming to ensure compliance in both government and private workplaces. This law seeks to eliminate discrimination against women in various sectors. PCW chairperson Ermelita Valdeavilla highlighted challenges in monitoring due to fragmented data. The Magna Carta of Women aligns with international agreements on women's rights, defining discrimination and outlining state obligations to promote gender equality. Valdeavilla also noted that violence against women is a significant global issue, affecting one in three women worldwide. A recent survey indicated that nearly 20% of Filipino women have faced violence from intimate partners.
