Philippine committee links former President Duterte to alleged criminal enterprise in drug trade hearings

A Philippine congressional committee has linked former President Rodrigo Duterte to a "grand criminal enterprise" during hearings on drug-related activities. Representative Romeo Acop stated that testimonies from various individuals suggest Duterte and his associates were involved in illegal drug trade, despite his anti-drug campaign. Acop highlighted that key figures, including former police and customs officials, have implicated Duterte and his allies in smuggling and extrajudicial killings. He criticized the lack of investigation into individuals like former economic adviser Michael Yang, who has been connected to the drug trade. The quad committee's hearings concluded for 2024, with a partial report expected on December 17. Further hearings are planned to resume in January 2025.
