Philippines advances digital transformation in government processes
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in the Philippines is pushing for digital reforms in government processes. At the GovX.0 Summit in Pasay City, DICT Undersecretary David Almirol highlighted the need to make government transactions easier and more efficient. The DICT is leading a digital transformation by launching 25 digital platforms, including the eGov Super App. This app combines various government services such as driver’s license applications and banking into one platform. Almirol reported that the Super App has handled over 440 million transactions and merged 1,100 government systems. Additionally, the DICT has created the eGov Blockchain to improve data security and transparency among agencies. Almirol noted that the goal is to simplify processes and avoid duplication of information. If one agency has a citizen's verified data, it should not need to be submitted again. The DICT has also focused on cloud optimization, which has cut costs by 60%. It has made centralized cloud services free for government agencies, which has helped improve digitalization efforts. As a result, the Philippines has moved up in the global digitalization rankings, from 80th to 49th place according to the 2025 Asia Pacific Digitalization Nations Index.
