Philippines evacuates 87000 people after Mount Kanlaon erupts
About 87,000 people are being evacuated from towns near Mount Kanlaon in the central Philippines after a significant volcanic eruption. The eruption produced a large ash plume and hot gas streams, prompting authorities to raise the alert level due to the risk of more explosive eruptions. Volcanic ash has affected a wide area, including Antique province, over 200 kilometers away. Six domestic flights and one international flight were canceled, and schools have been closed in vulnerable areas. Evacuation centers are being set up, and supplies are being gathered. The eruption lasted nearly four minutes and created a pyroclastic flow, which can be extremely dangerous. The alert level is now at the third-highest level, indicating that further eruptions may occur. Mount Kanlaon is one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes.
