Philippines evacuates 87,000 people as Kanlaon Volcano erupts
The evacuation of about 87,000 people affected by the Kanlaon Volcano eruption in the Philippines is now in progress, according to the Office of Civil Defense. This follows the volcano's eruption and the raising of the alert level to 3. Most evacuees, around 46,900, are from La Castellana town, located within the four to six kilometer danger zone. Evacuation centers include schools and a staging area at the municipal hall. In Negros Oriental, 50 families have been moved to a school, while forced evacuations are impacting around 1,800 families across five villages. The volcano has been in a state of unrest since its last eruption in June.
