Philippines evacuates thousands as Typhoon Toraji approaches northern region
Thousands of people are being forcibly evacuated from 2,500 villages in northern Philippines as Typhoon Toraji approaches. This region has already suffered from severe flooding and landslides caused by three storms in the past month. Typhoon Toraji, with winds up to 130 kilometers per hour, is expected to hit the mountainous Luzon region. The government has warned that the rain-soaked areas are at high risk for flash floods and landslides. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is overseeing recovery efforts and has canceled his attendance at an international forum to focus on the crisis. The recent storms have caused over 160 deaths and affected more than 9 million people.
