Philippines mobilizes resources for storm relief after Kristine causes 46 deaths
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the full mobilization of government resources for rescue and relief efforts following Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, which has caused 46 deaths and affected over 2.6 million people. Cabinet secretaries will oversee the aid distribution.
The Office of the Civil Defense reported that most fatalities occurred in the Bicol Region, primarily due to landslides and drowning. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has verified 13 of the reported deaths.
In other news, the peso has fallen to 58.32 against the dollar, its lowest in nearly three months, as foreign exchange operations resumed after storm disruptions. The decline is linked to expectations of slower U.S. interest rate cuts.
