Philippines prepares for Typhoon Leon as evacuation efforts begin in Batanes
The Philippine government is on high alert for Typhoon Leon, with evacuation and aid efforts underway in Batanes. Social Welfare Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe announced plans to send an additional 5,500 family food packs to Batanes once weather conditions improve. This follows the prepositioning of 2,000 food packs in the area. As of 8 a.m., Typhoon Leon was located 110 kilometers from Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum winds of 195 kilometers per hour. The weather bureau downgraded the wind signal for Batanes from 5 to 4 as the storm moves away.
