Philippines raises storm alert as super typhoon Usagi nears coast
The Philippines has raised its storm alert to the highest level as Super Typhoon Usagi approaches, with winds reaching 180 km/h. Thousands are being evacuated from coastal areas, particularly in Cagayan province, which is still recovering from previous storms. The UN has requested $32.9 million in aid after recent weather disturbances killed 159 people. Many residents remain in shelters due to ongoing flooding from the swollen Cagayan River. Usagi is expected to bring intense rain and dangerous coastal waves. Another storm, Tropical Storm Man-yi, is predicted to follow, further straining recovery efforts in the region.
