Philippines to proceed with missile acquisition plans despite China's objections
The Philippines will proceed with plans to acquire intermediate-range missile launchers from the United States, according to Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. This decision comes despite China's objections, which labeled the move as "provocative" and "dangerous." Teodoro emphasized that the missile acquisition is part of a broader military capability upgrade. He noted that while the U.S. Typhon missile system is one option, the government is exploring various missile systems. Philippine officials assert that China has no right to interfere in the country's sovereign decisions, particularly regarding actions in the West Philippine Sea. Teodoro stated that the Philippines is guided by international law in its defense strategies.
