The Philippine poverty threshold will be updated in May 2025, as announced by Senator Grace Poe. This update follows annual revisions, with current metrics indicating that a Filipino needs to spend P64 daily to avoid being classified as food poor. Senator Koko Pimentel raised concerns about the previous threshold of P60, which faced public criticism. Poe explained that a new formula will be developed by an interagency group, incorporating input from food nutritionists and price data from the Philippine Statistics Authority. Poe noted that adjustments to the poverty threshold are necessary, as the current calculations may no longer be effective. The food poor threshold was P55 in 2021 and increased to P63 in 2023.
