Phivolcs raises alert level for Kanlaon Volcano amid lahar warning
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Kanlaon Volcano's alert level to 3 due to magmatic unrest. They warned that rainfall could trigger lahars, urging precautionary measures in nearby areas. An explosive eruption occurred at Kanlaon on Monday, producing a plume that reached 3 kilometers high. Ashfall was reported in several locations, including Bago City and La Carlota City. Phivolcs advised mandatory evacuation within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano. Sulfur dioxide emissions were recorded at 4,638 tons, with aviation authorities warning pilots to avoid the area.
